I like doing bespoke work, but this was a real headscratcher!

A built in kitchen unit fir a converted camper van, with all the joys of tight space, curved walls, bulkheads, no decent places to fix to and a difficult design to maximise the space.

The unit comprises the sink cupboard, with the main unit over the fridge, with a cutlery draw, pull out chopping board/work surface, pull out camp stove at 90 degrees to the rest of the pull outs and a cupboard over and storage down the side.

All made in ply to be decorated later by the client, with pop out handles and soft close hinges. Making it was a challenge, fitting it even more so!

A rather beaten up chest of drawers in dire need of attention.
The top was badly bowed and split with ring marks and pen marks.
Each draw was damaged or falling apart.

It was all stripped down with plenty of repairs made and the draws planed down to fit snugly.

The worktop was soaked in water overnight and clamped flat to flatten them. It was then reglued. Each part including the top had the name of the maker penciled on the back. I LOVE old furniture and its story.

All put back together and waxed with a few coats, after all the marks have been removed. Now in its new home, awaiting some matching handles.

As good as new!

The bench ends were reclaimed and provided by the client. After being stripped down, painted, laquered and the makers name, which is the same as the person who the memorial bench was for, was hand painted in gold paint (nice touch!), the slats were made from mahogany and finished with tung oil. The back of the bench was recessed to accept the memorial plaque.

A fitting tribute to last many years to come and solid as a rock.

One of the last orders for Christnas. 3 large (2 feet x 1 foot) solid oak chopping boards, packed with features.

2 inches thick with a gripped pyramid carving area, flat carving area, juice grooves and routered handles. All finished with a mix of mineral oil and beeswax.

Now they should be just right for the Christmas turkeys for years to come!

I always like to do projects that have some history or meaning attached to them. I guess you dont get more importance than a project like this to create 2 replacement grave markers for a family.

Both are made from solid English oak with half lap joints and a mounting for the brass name plates. Finished with tung oil and the bottom coated in liquid dpm to protect them in the ground.

Elegant and simple these will last many years.

The Sussex Oak burl wood is now in its new home, hosting a set of led lights to make a unique light fitting for this bedroom. There are another 2 to make but each one is totally unique in shape and its look.

A little more intresting than a lump of plastic!

A definite work in progress this one.

Absolutley gorgeous Sussex burr oak. If you look at a tree and see the big round growths on the side, thats a burr, and this is a slice from one. The pattern of the grain is always beautiful and is prized for furniture making.

Its a real honour to do projects that mean so much for people.

This bench has been done to celebrate a diamond wedding anniversary. The bench ends have been salvaged and repainted, with some repairs and additional brackets by @beverton_blacksmiths and the slats are 50 year old mahogany from a retired furniture makers workshop.

They have been engraved with the family members name to mark the occasion.

I've been somewhat tied up, so thought it was high time i posted some more recent projects.

This butchers block chopping board is an absolute monster. Measuring halt a meter square x 4 inches thick and made from end grain oak.

This has been sent off to Ireland and will last generations. I think the courier may have grumbled tbough. It weighed in at 29kgs, which is heavier than a bag of cement!

A lovely floating live edge desk and matching shelves, really finish off this bedroom.

Made from solid pieces of spalted sycamore 70mm thick, these were really heavy. The spalting is caused by fungus in the wood as it grows, giving fantastic patterns in the grain.

The desk needed a hidden metal bracket system made up to support it, as did the shelves, and @beverton_blacksmiths obliged with his usual high standard for those.

The desk is two parts of the same slab joined and a lot of effort and time went into the sanding and finishing

Certainly a one of a kind for a home office

Time for a sit down in the garden.

This bench with built in storage, is made from mahogany with oak panelling to the sides and seat and a single oak slab completes it with the back support and finished in tung oil.

The two hardwoods make a great contrast to each other and the grain of the slab really brings the bench to life.

This should give years of pleasure in the garden on long summer days. A real one off.
